Tom Holland Says One Far From Home Scene Is Pivotal To Spider-Man 3

With Spidey being pulled out of the MCU and now once again under the stewardship of Sony, fans are full of questions about where Spider-Man 3 goes from here. Far From Home ended with a shocking twist that should change Peter Parker's life forever, but we're not even sure if Sony's next movie will follow on from that. Tom Holland, who's confirmed to be coming back, has given us a big hint that it will, however.

The British star attended Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia on Sunday and touched on his favorite scene from all his Marvel appearances. It turns out it’s Far From Home‘s big emotional moment on board the Stark plane where Peter opens up about his fears and insecurities to Happy Hogan, who in turn gives him a pep talk by saying that Tony believed in him. In doing so, Holland even teased that this scene is “pivotal” to Spider-Man 3.

“I think the best work I’ve ever done in any film is the scene with [Jon] Favreau on the plane, and that’s such a pivotal moment for the three films that we’re making — well, two films we’ve made, one film we’re making. It’s… I don’t really know how to describe it without giving stuff away. I’m really trying hard here [laughs].”

So, let’s look at what this scene means. It’s really the moment in FFH when Peter realizes he’s not living in Iron Man’s shadow but has been encouraged by his late mentor to be the best Spider-Man he can be. As such, you could argue this completes the “boy to man” arc Peter’s been on since Captain America: Civil War. In Spider-Man 3, then, we can infer that he’ll be a more fully-formed Spidey than we’ve seen before.

That’s pretty handy, given that we’re not sure Iron Man can even be mentioned in SP3 thanks to the corporate split. Even before this debacle, however, Feige told us that the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel would be more “Peter-focused.” So, in terms of his next solo movie, the Sony/Disney divorce might not impact the story too much. It’s just in the absence of Spidey in the team-up events when fans will really feel the difference.
