By now, you’re probably aware of how Tom Holland has a penchant for spilling beans. In fact, his lips are so loose that he wasn’t even given a full script for Avengers: Endgame. Instead, he had only his own lines to read over. That, my friends, is compartmentalization at its finest.
Still, the Spider-Man: Far From Home star was able to spoil one crucial element of the blockbuster team-up flick for his colleagues, that being the death of Tony Stark – and it sounds like they didn’t even ask for it. During a group interview, Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon recounted how that conversation went (transcript via ComicBook.com):
“He told me too early,” said Zendaya.
“I feel like we talked about this way back in, like, 2016,” Batalon added with a chuckle.
Holland later added, “I’ve known for a really long time,” which prompted Zendaya to chide him for his loose lips: “And thus we have to know,” she said sarcastically.
Considering that Spider-Man: Homecoming didn’t release in theaters until 2017, Batalon’s words may have been a slight exaggeration, but I’m guessing he begrudgingly learned while filming for either Endgame itself or Far From Home.
Here’s a little more from the chat in question:
“I was just like, ‘yo, what’s up, Iron Man dies,'” joked Holland.
Added Zendaya, “Honestly, that’s probably exactly how it went.”
“That’s the best way to hear it! You think you want to experience that in the cinema for the first time? No!” Holland said.
Having read that, I’m still wondering how the timeline played out. Like I said earlier, Holland is said to be given only snippets of the script relevant to him, so I’m guessing he blabbed around the time Tony’s final moments were filmed. It goes without saying the demise of Iron Man was one of Endgame‘s hardest hitting sendoffs, so you know that info was closely guarded.
At least so far, Holland hasn’t completely blown the lid off Spider-Man: Far From Home, so thankfully, the rest of us can go in fresh when it arrives in theaters on July 2nd.
