To celebrate the 36th birthday of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland has taken to Instagram with a throwback to the days before the Marvel Cinematic Universe even had a Spider-Man.
The post includes a photo of Hemsworth and Holland from around the time the pair collaborated on the 2015 adventure film In the Heart of the Sea. In the caption, Holland shouts out his old co-star, before offering a quick nod to the relatively skinny frame that Hemsworth was rocking back then:
“Happy birthday you absolute legend. #heartofthesea #skinnydays”
Despite being two of the MCU’s biggest stars, Tom Holland and Chris Hemsworth have so far shared very little screen time in the Marvel movies. As it stands, Spider-Man and Thor have been in two films together: last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, and this year’s Avengers: Endgame. In the former case, the two heroes never cross paths, and in the latter, Spidey only shows up for the all-star final battle, at which point, he and Thor are just two in a crowd.
Nonetheless, there’s still time for the God of Thunder and the wall-crawler to buddy up, seeing how both Hemsworth and Holland have confirmed futures in the franchise. The next time we see Hemsworth, for instance, will likely be in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 5th, 2021.
After that, there’s been much speculation that he might show up in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though we’re still waiting for confirmation on that idea. As for Holland, the web-slinger currently has no future projects on the official Phase 4 schedule, but seeing how Spider-Man: Far From Home just provided the MCU with its third billion-dollar movie in a row, it’s safe to assume that the film’s post-credits cliffhanger won’t go unresolved.
