The first trailer for Tower Heist was released today. I’ve been excited for this one for a while now as I do generally enjoy heist films, a lot and Brett Ratner is directing, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy star in the film which revolves around condominium workers plotting a revenge heist.

Despite a couple flops, Ratner has done some good work. I’ve enjoyed Red Dragon, Rush Hour 2 and After The Sunset. While none of them were great, they were all fun films that made for some solid entertainment.

As for Tower Heist, well I can’t say I’m too impressed. I’m willing to give it a chance because I really do enjoy heist films but this looks rather cookie cutter and uninspired.

The failed attempts at comedy come through quite strongly in the trailer and seeing as Tower Heist looks more comedy than heist, I can’t see this one succeeding.

It’s a shame that Tower Heist looks to be quite forgettable. Although I never expected the film to be on the level of something like The Italian Job or Heat, I thought with Ratner behind the camera, we’d at least get a fun, popcorn film that could fill the recent void of heist flicks.

Like I said, I’ll remain optimistic but judging by the trailer alone, I really don’t see anything of worth here. The script looks absolutely horrid and despite the mostly strong cast, I’m not expecting much from the film.

Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, Téa Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe, Stephen Henderson, Judd Hirsch, Michael Pena, and Alan Alda star in the Brett Ratner directed picture.

Tower Heist hits theaters November 4th, 2011

After the workers at a luxury Central Park condominium discover the penthouse billionaire has stolen their retirement, they plot the ultimate revenge: a heist to reclaim what he took from them.
