The Writer's Guild of America have just announced there list of eligible films for their awards ceremony which celebrates the year's best adapted and original screenplays. As usual some films are disqualified for various reasons, among those disqualified are: Toy Story 3, Winter's Bone, The King's Speech, Another Year, Blue Valentine and Biutiful. So only some of the year's most talked about films then.

So only some of the year’s most talked about films then.

The reason for this is that these films were produced outside the WGA’s jurisdiction and not put under for their consideration. So these screenplays were not vetted by the Guild when they went into production. Seems logical if a tad unfair. These are films with serious awards buzz around them. However the WGA awards are usually is a pretty good indicator of how the writing categories will turn out at the Oscars. The nominees less so, only 4 of those nominated for WGA awards last year went on to be nominated at the Oscars.

The WGA Award winners will be announced on the 5th of February next year.
