Coming August 26th is Troy Nixey‘s chilling new horror film, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and today we have a brand new trailer for it. Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes star in the Guillermo del Toro produced film which does indeed look quite creepy and just may live up to the hype surrounding it.

The film has done well for itself during festival screenings and I do like Guy Pearce, del Toro’s backing also has me excited. It seems like a ‘haunted house’ type horror movie, which I usually don’t like but the positive buzz and the above mentioned factors keep me optimistic about the film. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good horror flick so I’m hoping this will fill the void.

Check out the trailer below and see what you think.

Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.
