Christopher Nolan’s Tenet hasn’t been shooting for very long, but already the first trailer from the hugely-anticipated release has arrived online, teasing what appears to be another mind-bending, thrilling ride from the acclaimed director. Described as “an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage,” there’s not a whole lot offered up in the preview, but what we get is certainly intriguing.

Seen up above, the brief teaser tells us that Tenet is looking to introduce us to a “new protagonist” and a “new kind of mission.” What exactly that means, we don’t know, but star John David Washington is featured throughout the preview, as we get some ominous music and an eerie vibe that shows us a few glimpses of the actor in various action-based scenes. None of the other cast members are spotlighted here, but this definitely feels like a movie that’s still hiding an awful lot from us.

Of course, as one of the most beloved and most consistent directors in Hollywood, each new Nolan film generates huge amounts of interest and buzz and Tenet looks to be no different. After all, the $225 million production is expected to be another globe-trotting adventure, with shooting taking place in seven countries including Estonia, the United Kingdom, India and Italy.

We don’t really see any of that in this preview, mind you, but again, Tenet appears to be a movie with a lot of secrets that probably won’t be unravelled in full until it hits theaters. That being said, it seems like we’re in for quite a treat. Speaking about the project a while back, Robert Pattinson teased that it’s going to be unreal.

“I got locked in a room to read the script – I don’t have it myself,” the actor said. “I’ve been a little wary of doing big movies for years and years, but there’s just something about Chris Nolan’s stuff. He seems like the only director now who can do what is essentially a very personal, independent movie that has huge scale. I read the script and it’s unreal.”

With the first trailer for Tenet now out in the wild, hopefully Warner Bros. will tell us a little bit more about Nolan’s new film sooner rather than later. But until they do, you can bet the fans will be dissecting this tantalizing promo for any clues they can find.
