I have to admit, I wasn’t entirely sold on Sacha Baron Cohen‘s upcoming film The Dictator when I saw the first footage from it. I enjoyed Borat and thought parts of Bruno were funny but I just didn’t see the appeal of this film, until now that is. Yesterday, Paramount released a second trailer for the film which not only gives us some more plot details, but is also laugh out loud funny.
Sacha Baron Cohen plays a “fictional dictator from the Middle East who comes to America.” What’s revealed in the trailer is that he becomes an everyday citizen trying to find his way in New York, a new plot point that wasn’t known until this preview was released.
After watching the trailer a couple of times, I’m now fully on board with the film. I laughed multiple times while watching the preview and I think Cohen may have another hit on his hands with The Dictator. Plus, I’m really looking forward to seeing John C. Reilly go back to comedy after his string of more serious roles (Carnage, We Need To Talk About Kevin).
Larry Charles will direct Cohen, along with co-stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, even B.J. Novak and Aasif Mandvi. The film is set for a May 11th release date.
