First Trailer For Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four Reboot Blasts Online

Apprehension, doubt and just a smidgen of curiosity; much digital ink has been spilled about Josh Trank's ambitious Fantastic Four reboot. Could the Chronicle director bring his idiosyncratic style to the superhero quartet and help give them the film they deserve? Or will history repeat itself, effectively making the flick the final nail in the coffin for Mister Fantastic and Co.

Granted, we’ll have to wait patiently until the film’s arrival in August to establish a more comprehensive verdict, but today we’ve been given our first look at the new-fangled cast in the very first trailer. Debuting a little ahead of schedule (early reports suggested that the snippet would debut in tandem with Kingsman: The Secret Service, Fox’s other property), Fox has understandably played it safe with this first snippet, rehashing the grizzled, villain-like voiceover that we’ve seen time and time again. We’re hoping that the final product takes itself a little less seriously, and utilizes the chemistry between the leads to good effect.

Lovingly described as Marvel’s dysfunctional family, this footage helps establish the chemistry between the four leads, and it’ll be interesting to see how their relationships pan out over the course of the full feature as they go toe-to-toe with Doctor Doom.

Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four will blast into theaters on August 7. For now, be sure to let us know your own early impressions of the first trailer in the comments section below.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
