Back in 2013, Neal Moritz and Furious 7 director James Wan found themselves facing a tricky conundrum when series stalwart Paul Walker (Brian O’Connor) tragically passed away during production on Universal’s blockbuster sequel.
Soon after things ground to a halt, Wan and his braintrust pulled together to make the best out of a very bad situation, and the end result was the blockbuster’s bittersweet finale, one in which Vin Diesel’s on-screen petrolhead Dominic Toretto rides alongside Walker’s fan-favorite one last time, before a fork in the road takes each vehicle – and, by effect, each driver – in opposite directions to the tune of Wiz Khalifa’s moving “See You Again.”
It was a beautiful, emotional send-off for both Brian O’Connor and Paul Walker’s legacy, opening up a relatively blank slate for Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray, who took the reins on The Fate of the Furious as James Wan made tracks toward Warner Bros. and the Aquaman solo movie. But it seems that the deceased actor is about to receive yet another tribute in the form of Paramount Network’s new documentary I Am Paul Walker, which just got its first trailer today.
Set to premiere on television on August 11th at 9pm EST, the film promises to shine a light on the life of the beloved father, humanitarian, friend and actor, whose “legacy of kindness and compassion continues to inspire others.” Featuring interviews with his friends, family members and collaborators, we see everyone speaking fondly of Walker here, as they recount memories of him and explain why he was such a wonderful person.
It’ll no doubt be an emotional watch, but I Am Paul Walker appears to be a beautiful tribute to the beloved actor, who to this day is still sorely missed and whose legacy can be felt in the Fast& Furious series. Speaking of which, the next installment in the juggernaut franchise will come in the form of spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, which you can look forward to seeing on August 2nd, 2019.
