First Trailer For Reign Of The Supermen Drops Online

When I was first really getting into comic books as a kid, one of the big things DC had going on at the time was Reign of the Supermen, a story that spanned multiple titles and featured four possible replacements for Superman following his demise at the hands of Doomsday. And now that it’s being adapted as an animated movie, you’d better believe that I’ll be checking it out for the sake of nostalgia alone.

Similar to its literary counterpart, the flick will pick up shortly after the events seen in the recently released The Death of Superman, effectively making the tale a two-parter of sorts. Actually, the last time WB Animation did such a thing was when they put out Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, so trust me when I say we’ll be in for a real treat if this bad boy proves to be even half as good.

If you’ll recall, the last teaser we received in video form came via a sneak peek featurette back in July, but now we finally have the first full trailer to present. Seen at the top of this article, we’re given a hint at to what the next chapter in the epic has to offer – and it looks quite impressive.

Of course, much of the appeal comes courtesy of Superman’s hopeful successors. Believe it or not, Jerry O’Connell is pulling double duty by voicing both Superman and Cyborg Superman. Joining him will be The CW’s Black Lightning himself, Cress Williams, as Steel, not to mention Gotham‘s own Cameron Monaghan lending his pipes to Superboy. The Eradicator’s voice actor, however, has yet to be revealed.

Right now, Reign of the Supermen lacks a release date, though a January or February debut seems most likely when taking first quarter releases of past DC animated movies into account. And now that the trailer is out in the open, we expect to learn much more in the very near future, so keep watching this space.
