Today we have the first trailer for Epic, the upcoming 3D animated flick from Blue Sky StudiosWhile it doesn’t seem as promising as Frankenweenie, which also released a new trailer today, the film still looks to provide a fun and enjoyable time at the theatre.

Admittedly, there’s still a lot of work to be done as the movie is almost a year away. The animation isn’t quite complete yet but the trailer has managed to catch my attention as the film boasts a very appealing voice cast as well as a competent director behind the camera. Plus, Blue Sky Studios is usually pretty reliable (Robots, Ice Age, Horton Hears A Who).

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

“Epic” is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of “Ice Age” and “Rio,” “Epic” tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.”

Epic is scheduled to release on May 24, 2013 and stars the voices of Beyoncé Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson and Judah Friedlander.

It will be directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots) and based on William Joyce’s book, The Legend of the Leaf Men.
