Today we get the first trailer for Bel Ami, starring Robert Pattinson. Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, and Colm Meaney co-star in the film which is based on Guy de Maupassant‘s classic novel. It tells the story of Georges Duroy, a man travelling in 1890s Paris, who uses his powers of seduction to climb the social ladder.
It’s not that the film necessarily looks bad, I just have no interest in it. Pattinson isn’t a terrible actor and his post-Twilight career is shaping up pretty well but this flick just seems like something more geared towards the ladies, the R.Patz fans in particular.
That being said, this will probably be another respectable credit for the young actor’s resume and hopefully it will help him escape from the Twilight bubble and be taken more seriously. For those of you that have seen Robert Pattinson in a film that is not Twilight, you’ll know that he’s actually a decent actor.
From the looks of the trailer, I think he’ll deliver a solid performance and show a side of himself that audiences haven’t seen yet. If you’re into drama/romance/period flicks, then this may be right up your alley.
