This New Transformers: The Last Knight TV Spot Gives Us Our First Look At Dragonstorm

Transformers: The Last Knight is shaping up to be a pretty weird summer blockbuster. Not only is the central conceit that series hero Optimus Prime has turned evil and decided to destroy earth a bit of a shocker, but the upcoming film also features Nazis and an appearance by none other than King Arthur himself. Now, this new trailer shows us that they've thrown a giant mechanical three-headed robot dragon into the mix, too, because at this point, why not?

Transformers: The Last Knight is shaping up to be a pretty weird summer blockbuster. Not only is the central conceit that series hero Optimus Prime has turned evil and decided to destroy earth a bit of a shocker, but the upcoming film also features Nazis and an appearance by none other than King Arthur himself. Now, this new trailer shows us that they’ve thrown a giant mechanical three-headed robot dragon into the mix, too, because at this point, why not?

The monster, appropriately named Dragonstorm (which sounds like and probably is also the name of a metal band) is apparently an Autobot brought in to battle Optimus, and it looks like he’s not going to find destroying everything we know and love so easy if this thing’s standing in his way. Dragonstorm’s involvement in the film has been confirmed for a while, though this is easily the best shot of him yet and let’s face it, a Cerberus steel dragon thing should provide Michael Bay with all the excuse he needs to go hog wild with the pyrotechnics.

Despite being routinely skewered by critics, Bay’s Transformers series has only gone from strength to strength, with this instalment looking like it might be a cut above its prequels. Paramount certainly seem to have confidence in the franchise, confirming a spinoff film for fan favourite Bumblebee and looking into creating an Avengers-style shared cinematic universe with its Hasbro properties. Is it just a matter of time before we see Megatron buddying up with Rainbow Dash and their Furby buddies? I’m betting that yes, it is.

Transformers: The Last Knight is set to be released on June 21st.
