If Universal has a stranglehold on the tail-end of the week with Fast Fridays, Tuesdays are traditionally the day when Paramount’s Transformers franchise takes center stage on social platforms.
And sure enough, just yesterday the studio pumped out an all-new set video for Transformers: The Last Knight, Michael Bay’s 2017 blockbuster that represents a defining turning point in the franchise. That’s because, early on in development, Paramount formed a writers room with the sole intention of pumping new blood into its box office juggernaut, eventually mapping out plans for new sequels through 2019.
The Last Knight will get the ball rolling in June of next year, followed swiftly by a rumored Bumblebee spinoff in 2018 and a new, as-yet-untitled sequel the following year. Ambitious though that may be, Transformers is one of the very few cinematic franchises that continues to muscle its way past the billion dollar threshold – a trend that director Michael Bay will no doubt hope to uphold in little under a year’s time.
On board to help make that goal a reality are Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager. There are also roles for Isabela Moner along with the illustrious Anthony Hopkins. When it comes to those robots in disguise, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Drift, Sqweeks, Megatron and Barricade are all a lock.
Transformers: The Last Knight is slated for theatrical release on June 23, 2017. It’s already beginning to stage its marketing campaign, though, with a recent poster pitting Optimus Prime against a mysterious, three-headed threat.
