“Hey, guys! Remember that really old movie Empire Strikes Back?”
Yes, despite the moment in Civil War when his on-screen superhero harkens back to Star Wars, arguably one of the greatest sequels in the history of sequels, Tom Holland isn’t all that fussed about Lucasfilm’s crown jewel – so much so, in fact, that he’s yet to see Empire in its entirety, and clearly has no desire to do so. Not now, and perhaps not ever.
Why, you ask? Because Holland just isn’t a Star Wars fan – a surprise admission that the British actor made during a recent interview with Uproxx. Currently in the midst of Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s global press tour, Holland held his hands up to admit that, no, he still hasn’t seen Empire Strikes Back because he isn’t all that fussed about the Star Wars franchise, in general.
Uproxx: “I saw this made headlines again a couple of weeks ago — people are going to keep asking you about The Empire Strikes Back until you actually see it.”
Holland: “Yeah, I know. Still haven’t seen it, though.”
Uproxx: “You’re going to get asked every time.”
Holland: “People hate it when I say this, but I’m just really not a Star Wars fan.”
Hey, each to their own. For some, intergalactic warfare and age-old stories of the rebellion just aren’t appealing, and given Holland’s stacked schedule (see: Far From Home, The Current War, Sony’s long-brewing Uncharted movie), it’s small wonder why the actor hasn’t ticked Empire Strikes Back off his to-do list.
And by all accounts, he’ll be kept busy for many more years to come, what with rumors circulating that he’s already committed to several Spider-Man films beyond Far From Home. Whether that is indeed the case will be told in time, but for now, we can sit back and look forward to the MCU sequel ahead of its global debut on July 2nd.
