It’s not often the film industry and the world of sport intersect, but coincidentally, we’ve been treated to this rarity twice in the past seven days or so.
Last week, the original Diana of Themyscira, Lynda Carter, was spotted at game four of the Stanley Cup Final between the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights, in Washington D.C, where production on Wonder Woman 1984, as fate would have it, recently got underway. The supposed chance occurrence has, as you might’ve guessed, prompted many to believe that she’ll be making an appearance in the DC hero’s second standalone feature.
Then – as I’m sure most of you are aware, seeing as it is the world’s most popular pastime – the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked-off on Thursday in Russia, which caused a Twitter follower of Fede Álvarez to strike a bargain with the Uruguayan filmmaker.
User @bane_justin proposed that should Uruguay win the World Cup, Álvarez would have to make Evil Dead 2, the long-rumoured sequel to his 2013 reboot of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult horror classic. Evidently, the director’s game, as you can see in his response below.
If Uruguay win the World Cup will u make Evil Dead 2😉😉

The last we heard of Evil Dead 2 came roughly a month ago from the filmmaker himself. Álvarez queried followers and fans apropos of whether or not they’d be interested in seeing him helm a sequel to the surprisingly sufficient 2013 remake. While those in favor made their voices heard, the Don’t Breath director hasn’t provided any additional information regarding the sequel.
However, if Uruguay were to emerge triumphant at the 2018 World Cup, I’m sure those adamant on another instalment of the franchise based on gory grandiosity will make sure Álvarez keeps his promise, by any means necessary.
