Up until now, Venom has very much been the story of two trailers.

Back in February, Sony and director Ruben Fleischer rolled out a sneak peek that was decidedly lacking in bite – and Venom, incidentally, unless you count that blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot included at the end.

To their credit, Fleischer and his SFX team are calling upon cutting-edge CGI to render Eddie Brock’s raging alter-ego, so it’s likely that the effects simply weren’t ready in time for the teaser’s release. The second, full-length trailer, however, is a completely different story, as it offers an up-close look at the alien symbiote slithering over Tom Hardy’s helpless body, signaling the moment when two become one.

And now, thanks to the illustrious BossLogic, today brings forth an incredible piece of concept art featuring Carnage, a character who is all but guaranteed to hold a major role in October’s Spider-Man spinoff.

Venom Carnage

The question, really, is who will be playing the fictional supervillain known as Cletus Kasady. Our money is on Riz Ahmed, who clinched the role of Dr. Carlton Drake, leader of the Life Foundation. In saying that, there have been rumblings that Woody Harrelson’s mystery character is, in fact, Cletus Kasady, though the jury’s still out on that one.

One thing’s for sure: Tom Hardy will be pulling double duty on Sony’s offshoot, given the British actor lends his voice to both Eddie Brock and the alien symbiote gnawing away at his subconscious. It tees up a pretty complex dynamic for Hardy’s lead, though the actor has long proven his scenery-chewing talent thanks to The Dark Knight Rises, The Revenant and Legend, in which he plays both Ronnie and Reggie Kray.

Meanwhile, Sony and Ruben Fleischer plan to unleash Venom on October 5th.
