Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, referred to in horror circles as The Vicious Brothers, have set their next project in Temple, a horror-thriller written by You’re Next and The Guest scribe Simon Barrett.

The duo, behind cult favorite Grave Encounters and its sequel as well as last year’s Extraterrestrial, will roll cameras on the project in Japan later this year. There are plans to also release a book of ghost stories focusing on various real temples in Japan, written by Eiji Otsuka and partly focusing on the main temple at the center of the pic, further plot details for which are being kept under wraps.

The Vicious Brothers are known for a particularly love-it-or-hate-it style of horror filmmaking, revelling in B-movie plotting and over-the-top twists shot with unusual clarity. Most of the criticism lobbed at the pair’s past movies are centered on their plotting, so a collaboration between the duo and Barrett, who has two critically adored horror-thrillers under his belt, seems like a terrific move on the Vicious Brothers’ part.
