While Vin Diesel might best be known for his roles in The Fast and the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy series, he was (arguably) propelled into stardom thanks to his work in Pitch Black, which hit theater screens all the way back in 2000. That particular movie has been forgotten by many, but you might be more familiar with its sequels – including 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick.
Ever since its original release, Pitch Black has been retitled as The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black, and over the past two decades, Diesel has reprised his role as Richard B. Riddick, everyone’s favorite Furyan mercenary/soldier/pilot/all-around badass, on more than a few occasions.
While Vin’s busy shooting Fast & Furious 9 (along with two sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar) at the moment, it seems like he may be reprising his role as Riddick in the near future as well. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the actor took to Instagram a few days ago to share some exciting news. It turns out that he was recently given a complete script for Riddick 4: Furya, which seems to have been written by David Twohy, who previously penned and directed the first two films in the series.
Of course, word of another outing for The Chronicles Of Riddick franchise has reared its head many times before, particularly after the release of Riddick, which found itself a decent audience via home video sales even if it failed to light the box office up in the way the studio might’ve hoped.
For this next installment, though, we’ve heard that it’ll turn its attention to the origins of Diesel’s brooding Furyan. As for what exactly Riddick’s past may hold, that we don’t know just yet, but the actor has mentioned in previous interviews that the sequel will be a “little more expansive in its mythology.”
All that being said, there’s still no guarantee this movie will be made. After all, it’s common for scripts to be written, only to go unproduced for years, sometimes decades. Still, we certainly hope Vin Diesel has another chance to reprise his iconic role as it’d be nice to see the actor take on a more meaty sci-fi part again and with any luck, he’ll get to do just that in Riddick 4: Furya.
