Vin Diesel Signs On For Sci-Fi Pic Soldiers Of The Sun

It seems that Vin Diesel can't get enough of sci-fi as of late. As well as being all but officially confirmed to lend his vocal talents to the talking tree known as Groot in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, it has been announced that the Fast & Furious and Riddick star has signed on to produce and star in an original sci-fi flick titled Soldiers of the Sun, from Grace of Monaco writer Arash Amel.

It seems that Vin Diesel can’t get enough of sci-fi as of late. As well as being all but officially confirmed to lend his vocal talents to the talking tree known as Groot in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it has been announced that the Fast & Furious and Riddick star has signed on to produce and star in an original sci-fi flick titled Soldiers of the Sun, from Grace of Monaco writer Arash Amel.

The story is set, naturally of course, in a post-apocalyptic future and follows a group of soldiers who are searching for a fabled city of gold in Mexico whilst also trying to liberate it from the grasp of an alien race known as Orcs. I’m pretty sure there’s a reason for the really familiar sounding name given to the aliens but I’m not going to speculate just yet. I’m assuming that Diesel would be playing one of, if not the leader, of the soldiers, but there’s no confirmation on his role at this time.

Like all good high concept movies these days, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is hoping to turn this into another franchise winner for Universal, the same studio behind Vin Diesel’s Riddick and Fast & Furious series. No word on any potential directors as of yet but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.

Diesel is flying high off the back of his most recent success this summer with Fast & Furious 6, one of the few major blockbusters this year to actually turn a sizable profit. Plus, with his addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy roster, and the release of next month’s Riddick, it seems to be the year of Vin Diesel.

Tell us, what do you think of Diesel joining Soldiers of the Sun? Does the project sound appealing to you?
