It looks like we can potentially add Vince Vaughn to the list of actors back for Anchorman 2as The Playlist reports that Vaughn has teased the return of Ron Burgundy’s nastiest rival, Wes Mantooth of the KQHS Channel 9 Evening News Team. Recently, Vaughn told the UK press, “The chances are better than not that Wes Mantooth will be there.”

We already know that Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner will be back for the sequel to 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Unfortunately though, it’s unlikely that Fred Willard will reprise his role, and there’s no news on the likes of Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson or (my personal favorite) Tim Robbins returning for the sequel. But with Vaughn hopefully coming back, things are looking rosy for the rest of the crew.

Vaughn also commented on who he’d like to see play Dorothy Mantooth, Wes Mantooth’s saintly mother. His suggestion for the grand dame to take on the part? Angela Lansbury. If there is a movie God, this will happen.

Let’s face it: we’re all in glass cases of emotions on this one. Anchorman is among the best of Will Ferrell and Co. comedies, not least because of the stream of comedians and actors like Vaughn in cameo parts.

So if they can come even close to the magic of the first, it will almost guarantee that Anchorman 2 can be added to the pantheon of Will Ferrell comedies we all quote ad infinitum.

Anchorman 2 will begin shooting in early 2013 and we hope to hear more solid casting decisions before then.
