The War Beckons In New Images From The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies

Warner Bros. and New Line’s yearly tradition of unleashing another Middle Earth tale is destined to come to a close. After the hugely successful Lord Of The Rings trilogy bowed out in multiplexes worldwide eleven years ago, its follow-up saga is on the brink of doing the same as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will soon be upon us.

Whether or not you were left a little dissatisfied with the second part, The Desolation Of Smaug, you can’t ignore the mounting excitement for The Hobbit’s concluding chapter. The explosive end to Bilbo’s journey has been revealed in a storm of trailers, clips, previews and TV spots, but perhaps never better documented than in the film’s promotional images. Capturing the sheer monstrosity of what’s at stake, this new batch of stills hint at the spectacular ending that Tolkien fans have been waiting for: the Lonely Mountain battle scene.

From Bilbo to Gandalf to Thranduil, everyone appears to be deep in contemplation over what awaits them. Will it be as climactic as we all hope? We’ll find out very soon, as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies thunders into theatres on December 17th.
