Our source hasn’t told us that it’s 100% going to happen, but it’s certainly likely as the studio is very keen on getting Abrams onboard the franchise. There doesn’t appear to be a particular project that they’re eyeing him for at the moment and it’s thought that they may actually give him his pick. That remains to be confirmed, of course, but our source is confident in the fact that Warner Bros. wants him to have a hand in shaping the future of the DCEU.

Fans who know their Superman cinematic history will know that Abrams was actually attached to a DC movie back in the early 2000s. Superman: Flyby was set to be directed by X-Men: The Last Stand‘s Brett Ratner and scripted by the future Star Trek/Wars helmer. Abrams’ vision would’ve been a bold reinvention of the Kryptonian’s mythos so for all we know, he could end up in charge of the DCEU’s next Man of Steel movie.

After all, we’ve heard that WB is looking at rebooting Superman in the franchise, following Henry Cavill’s expected exit as Kal-El. It’s thought that the Supergirl film will sow the seeds for a new Big Blue to arrive later down the line and Abrams might be a smart choice for the studio to entrust one of their most prized properties with.

After all, though hardcore fans have had some issues with his takes on Trek and Wars, his blockbuster movies always draw big crowds and he’s revitalized several iconic franchises/properties already. So, why not have him do the same here?
