Suicide Squad hasn’t even hit theatres yet (in fact, it’s still several months away from release), but Warner Bros. is already looking ahead to the future.
We heard yesterday that they definitely want a sequel and today, we’re learning that the studio is hoping to get Ayer and the whole cast back. Furthermore, they’re hoping to have the follow-up in production by next year, if all goes according to plan.
According to Variety’s Justin Kroll, the studio is so excited about Suicide Squad that development has already begun on the sequel even though there’s no official release date for it just yet. Like we said above, they want it as soon as possible and are trying to get everyone back on board, which we imagine won’t be too difficult if the film turns out as good as everyone’s saying it is.
Of course, the DC Movie slate is pretty busy for the next few years, but a 2018 release could be possible if everything moves smoothly. Then again, given that the entire cast all have pretty busy schedules for the foreseeable future, it may be a while before the studio can assemble them all together again.
Regardless of when it hits, one thing is for certain, and that’s that we’ll be seeing a Suicide Squad 2 at some point down the road.
