If you weren’t already over the moon about the casting line-up for Star Wars: Episode VII, then you might be excited to hear that Warwick Davis is set to return to a galaxy far, far away. The franchise stalwart has officially signed on to J.J. Abrams’ anticipated first instalment of the new trilogy.
Davis will be recognisable to the Star Wars fan community as he appeared in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle For Endor as much-loved ewok, Wicket. That’s not to say he’ll be reprising that role for the new movie. Lest we forget, he also cropped up in the prequel trilogy. In Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, he took on two brief roles; one as Anakin’s childhood friend Wald, and the other as arms dealer Weazel.
The actor made his announcement today via a cute video clip posted to the official Star Wars YouTube page, entitled Will Warwick Davis Appear In Star Wars: Episode VII? The short report is presented as an opinion piece, that’s a sweet humourous riff on the actor’s hopes of appearing in the sequel. You can check it out for yourself above.
We’ve no further details on exactly who’ll he be playing this time around, but he won’t be the only returning character. The core group from the original trilogy, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew (the chap who played Chewbacca) are already in the thick of it, having signed on months ago to reprise their iconic roles. Whoever Davis does end up playing, he’s not got long to get his part in the can; principal photography on the movie ends in three weeks.
Star Wars: Episode VII arrives in theatres worldwide on December 18th, 2015.
