As well as finally letting us know what the actor was up to when he teased he’d be suiting up imminently a while back, it also doubles as a stroke of marketing genius from both the Maximum Effort head honcho and the all-conquering Disney machine.

Not only does it give fans the chance to finally see Deadpool back in action, but he’s promoting a new mega budget blockbuster being distributed by Mouse House subsidiary 20th Century Studios and starring Reynolds, an actor he refers to as ‘Canadian Cumberbatch’. On top of that, Korg is a very deliberate choice given that Taika Waititi co-stars in Shawn Levy’s video game-inspired action comedy, and there’s a couple of Disney digs thrown in for good measure.

Deadpool even takes the time to question why Reynolds is taking so long to get around to his third solo outing, making the reaction video meta on so many levels. We’ve been bombarded by rumor and speculation as to how Wade Wilson would eventually make his grand entry into the world’s biggest franchises, but none of them predicted it would be a trailer breakdown for Free Guy, which makes it even more of an unexpected surprise.

It’s great to see him back, and now all we need is for Deadpool 3 to start gaining some real momentum, and we’ll be off to the races.
