Ethan Hawke is mixing up his career choices as of late. After kicking butt as a homegrown Rambo in The Purge, he’s got indie-winner Before Midnight causing delight worldwide for fans of the romantic drama trilogy. On the path to steer him far away from any type of pigeon-holing (err…) he’ll next appear on our screens in the fast-action flick Getaway. Oh, and would you look, there’s a new trailer available for you to peruse below!

Getaway is brought to us by director Courtney Solomon, the chap responsible for An American Haunting and the live-action Dungeons And Dragons flick. His latest film has an energetic premise which mashes up The Fast And The Furious with Taken. Except it ain’t gonna be Paul Walker or Liam Neeson rescuing the maiden this time. Hawke takes the lead as an ex-racing driver who nabs a fancy car and goes in pursuit of a kidnapped woman. Who happens to be his wife. Check out the plot summary below:

Getaway is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller from Warner Bros. Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

Admittedly, it’s not the most original-sounding story. The high point of this type of picture will be watching Hawke going against type as driver Brent Magna. He’s worked in a lot of genres but the closest he’s come to anything like Getaway were his roles in Training Day and the remake of Assault On Precinct 13. The film itself looks fairly average but like I said, it should be interesting to see Hawke in this type of role.

Getaway opens in the US on August 30th and the UK on October 4th. Check out the trailer below.
