As one of the most exciting visual filmmakers in the business, one with a fantastic record in helming sci-fi thanks to eight-time Academy Award nominee Arrival and critically acclaimed sequel Blade Runner 2049, hopes are very high for the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s so-called unfilmable novel.

Early reactions compared it to George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy, while art director Tom Brown said it had the potential to be this generation’s The Lord of the Rings. That’s some serious hype to live up to, especially when Villenueve is only telling half of a complete story, in the hopes that Dune will prove successful enough to convince the studio to make the second chapter a reality.

The latest Japanese trailer comes burdened with plenty of new footage, showing off the sweeping landscapes, stunning production design and impeccable costuming that’s going to define the movie. That’s not even mentioning the star studded ensemble led by Timothee Chalamet in his first blockbuster role, with the young actor being lent support by the esteemed likes of Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Zendaya and many more.

In short, it’s shaping up to be nothing less than a feast for the eyes, and Dune stands every chance of going down as one of the genre’s modern greats when it finally comes to the big screen in just over three months.
