With his all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet and maniacal plans for a universe-wide genocide, Thanos is truly a Marvel villain like no other.
I mean, he’s so intent on wiping out half the population that he was willing to sacrifice his estranged daughter, the only person he’s ever truly loved, in order to acquire the elusive Soul Stone, the sixth and final piece of a WMD so powerful, that it left Earth’s Mightiest Heroes quaking in their boots.
It’s a credit to Josh Brolin and the Avengers: Infinity War writing team, then, that fans still felt some sympathy toward Marvel’s Mad Titan, even as he left a trail of destruction and utter degradation in his wake. Speaking of which, a new behind the scenes clip taken from the film’s upcoming Blu-ray release has surfaced which allows us to have a peak at just how Brolin brought the villain to life so wonderfully.
Unfortunately, i09 (who debuted it) has given us no way to embed the video, so you’ll have to head over to their site via the link below to watch, but it’s certainly worth checking out, as we see the actor on set in his performance capture suit, as well as interviews with various cast and crew about Thanos’ motivations and what sets him apart from other MCU antagonists who’ve come before.
And make no mistake about it, the Mad Titan truly is in a league of his own when it comes the franchise’s villains. With the exception of Loki, few individuals come close to his character development, which was so compelling that Reddit garnered a 600,000-strong thread in support of him. Mind you, in the name of absolute balance, that particular subreddit was halved the other week in what quickly became the biggest purge in the site’s 13-year history.
But we digress. All told, the bonus content on the upcoming home video release for Avengers: Infinity War amounts to around two hours worth of material, meaning that the Blu-ray is truly a bumper package – fitting, really, given that Joe and Anthony Russo’s two-billion-dollar titan is far and away the biggest MCU film hitherto.
