It’s been a long and painful wait, but Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt has finally sprung back into action. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 will hit theaters more than a year from now on July 14, 2023. Paramount seems to have decided to get the hype train rolling (quite literally) earlier on this one and has just released the first teaser trailer.

This new mission is shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in the long-running spy franchise. For one, it’s the first to be split into two parts, with the second arriving on June 28, 2024.

Practically everyone from IMF you’d expect to be along for the ride is here, including franchise staple Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, while Rebecca Ferguson will reprise her role as former M16 agent Ilsa Faust from Rogue Nation and Fallout.

We’re also getting Hayley Atwell as Grace, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, and Esai Morales as the film’s mysterious core villain. Beyond even them, Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes are all along for the ride, though in undisclosed roles (which may be a hint they’ll play a bigger role in Part 2). All of which means this is shaping up to be the most star-studded Mission: Impossible by a long shot.

One very appropriate twist is that it’s looking likely that Paramount’s hand was forced after a leaked version found its way online two days ago. Whichever rogue agent leaked that may have lit a fire under the studio, who are likely very unhappy that their carefully laid marketing campaign blasted off ahead of schedule.

Whatever the case Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is looking like a prime action movie. Roll on summer 2023.
