Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 is unlikely to be the most anticipated film of the year for those over the age of eight, but it still looks pretty entertaining. Maybe I’m just in arrested development, but the first film was so much fun that I don’t see how they can go wrong with the second. Today, we have the first full-length trailer and I must say, it’s still looking pretty promising.
We’ve already been introduced to the ‘foodimals’ via a teaser, but this one highlights the plot. It’s pretty simple: Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) returns to his overrun hometown in order to turn off the food machine that turns water into food. Apparently some havoc has been created and the food has transmogrified to animals (foodimals), turning the island into a cheeseburger paradise. Flint and his team, including girlfriend Sam (Anna Faris), dad Tim Lockwood (James Caan) and monkey Steve (Neil Patrick Harris), have to turn off the machine and stop the foodimals from reaching land. Presumably they will run amok, or whatever it is that gigantic tacos do when they reach civilization.
The trailer gives us the plot and plenty of puns. So many puns. Some are obviously geared towards the kids, but the original Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs had that vibe too and we were pleasantly surprised with it. If Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 can pull off the same balance of humor and slightly crazed entertainment value, then this will be a movie everyone can enjoy. I’ve heard the ‘leek in the boat’ joke several times now and I still giggle.
