Director Quentin Dupieux has brought us some interesting weirdness in his career so far, most notably the tale of a psychotic serial-killing tire in Rubber. Moving to the world of ordinarily animate objects, this year brings us Wrong CopsBased on the first trailer and poster for the film, it looks a bit like Reno 911! on depressants.

Wrong Cops follows Mark Burnham (Wrong) as a bored officer of the law who spends his time selling drugs and harassing a teenager (played, inexplicably, by Marilyn Manson). His fellow police officers are not much better, though I’m having difficulty actually figuring out the plot based on this trailer. Whatever is going on here – a nearly dead man in the trunk of a cop car, something involving a mix tape, a case full of cash, and a bizarre funeral – there’s one thing that I know for sure: I want to see this movie.

Dupieux’s particular brand of mumblecore weirdness might not be for everybody. His last film Wrong did very little when it came out this spring and Rubber is frankly bizarre, but in the best possible way. Wrong Cops looks at least a little explicable, even more middle-of-the-road. I mean, we’ve seen the whole ‘cops behaving badly’ thing a number of time, in films like Super Troopers and shows like Reno 911!. But Dupieux usually brings something new to the table, so I’d be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Wrong Cops also stars Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), Eric Wareheim, and Steve Little (Eastbound & Down) alongside Burnham and Manson.

Quentin Dupieux’s latest hits theatres and VOD on December 20th.

You can check out the trailer for Wrong Cops below, along with the rather revealing poster. Then, let us know what you think in the comments. Is Dupieux’s vision just a bit too weird (or derivative) for you?
