Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl hasn’t been out of the spotlight since the novel was released. A twisting, turning, narrative Mobius-strip of lies, deceit and incredibly unreliable narrators, it’s a breathtaking work of fiction. There was clearly no better choice to bring it to the big screen than David Fincher. A director who’ll take the sunny and shove it deep into the darkest recesses of hell – even when you don’t suspect it – his take on the novel is much, much anticipated.
The story revolves around the disappearance of Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) and the subsequent media circus surrounding her husband, Nick (Ben Affleck). Did he kill her? Or has she been kidnapped? It’s a simple enough sounding premise, but don’t be fooled. The plot slithers in ways you can’t begin to imagine.
Gearing up for the film’s premiere at the New York Film Festival, the studio are dropping a ton of new material to tempt audiences. But really, do we need any further enticing? The latest round of posters cleverly capture the couple in a series of poses, with single words hinting at the film’s tone, along with a new TV spot. Judging on the source material alone, the movie is set to be a huge critical hit. Depending on how it lands with the public, it could potentially be a box office champion and awards shoo-in.
Gone Girl debuts at the New York Film Festival on September 26th. It opens nationwide in theatres on October 3rd.
