From the looks of his burgeoning slate of upcoming projects, Wes Anderson is one hell of a busy guy. According to reports, the director of The Grand Budapest Hotel, known for his quirky, visually and narratively distinctive films that often feature ensemble casts, has already begun assembling his next lineup of stars, including Jeff Goldblum (Thor: Ragnarok), Benicio del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War), and Michael Cera (LEGO Batman Movie) for his upcoming 13th feature film.
Robert Yeoman, the cinematographer best known for his work with directors Wes Anderson and Paul Feig, recently spoke with The Film Stage about Asteroid City and revealed some details about Anderson’s upcoming projects, including the existence of a 13th feature. Yeoman said that development on the unnamed project would begin later this year, but he would not elaborate further. Speaking with The Film Stage, the winner of an Independent Spirit Award for cinematography said:
“I’m out of the loop on that one. But Wes Anderson works. He’s a workaholic. I’ll give him that. We jumped right from Asteroid City into the Henry Sugar thing. We were in Spain, and then we went to England. He works harder than anybody. He’s just always got something going on. I’m a little more like: take some time off and enjoy my life.”
Having debuted at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 23 and set for a limited theatrical release on June 16, followed by an expansion to a wide release on June 23, Wes Anderson’s sci-fi western Asteroid City has already received favorable reviews from critics.
And soon after the debut of Asteroid City, fans can expect to see Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which will premiere on Netflix, marking Anderson’s twelfth feature film and second Roald Dahl adaption. The film will comprise four stories, with performers including Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade portraying multiple characters in each story.
