Marvel Didn’t Want Wesley Snipes For Blade Because He’s Too Much Trouble

You know how prisoners can score an early release from captivity because of good behavior? Turns out you can lose your gig in a movie franchise due to bad behavior. According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Wesley Snipes has found that out the hard way. Now, he won't be our new Blade because of it.

You know how prisoners can score an early release from captivity because of good behavior? Turns out you can lose your gig in a movie franchise due to bad behavior. According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Wesley Snipes has found that out the hard way and now, he won’t be our new Blade because of it.

Snipes’ poor on-set attitude hasn’t been a secret for a long time. In August of last year, we covered the actor hinting that he might be starring in a new Blade movie but around the same time, he finally went on record with Vice about his misbehaving on set. In the interview, he was asked if it was true that he communicated with Blade: Trinity director David Goyer with post-it notes due to their not getting along. Just read between the lines of his response.

“That may have happened. I wouldn’t say it was frequent. Because our whole crew was banished to another side of the island of production. The only way we could sometimes get messages, since we didn’t have the radio, was to get it there by courier or pigeon sometimes.”

It looks like his reputation for being difficult, combined with his past legal troubles, is why he’s no longer the face of Blade. And what a shame that is. To say he rocked it as the vampire-slaying anti-hero is an understatement, as the franchise launched Marvel into the Hollywood spotlight. It came after two attempts at Captain America, one unreleased Fantastic Four, 1989’s The Punisher and Howard The Duck…just kidding. The duck kicked feathered ass.

According to other recent reports though, all hope might not be lost for fans of Snipes’ character. Despite Mahershala Ali scoring the title role, Marvel may be in talks to get the original star a supporting part. What that could be is another topic for another article, or several. But seeing how the reboot may be Marvel’s first R-rated movie ever, we might finally get to watch Snipes really cut loose…literally.

All this is very new, and seeing how Blade won’t be here until Marvel’s Phase 5 has begun, we have a long time to discuss everything and anything. But in the meantime, tell us, are you disappointed that Snipes won’t be returning in the title role? Sound off in the usual place with your thoughts.
