Here’s What Happened To Hagrid After Harry Potter Ended

If you were expecting exciting things for one of Harry Potter's closest allies, you might want to temper your expectations a bit.

Even though the final book released well over a decade ago, it doesn’t seem like the Harry Potter franchise will be leaving the spotlight anytime soon. After all, Warner Bros. is planning to produce at least three more films (as part of the Fantastic Beasts series), and there are still theme park attractions, mobile AR games, and plenty more to keep us totally hooked on the Wizarding World.

Of course, some of the franchise’s most diehard fans still have plenty of questions which need answering. Take Rubeus Hagrid, for instance. We first heard of this lovable oaf all the way back in Harry Potter and the Philosopher/Sorcerer’s Stone, where he rescued the titular bespectacled preteen from the Dursleys and informed him that he was, in fact, a wizard.

So, whatever happened to the Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts? Well, as detailed in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it looks like Hagrid was still working by the time young Albus Potter was heading off to school. Interestingly though, as ScreenRant reports, series creator J.K. Rowling revealed that Rubeus never got married or had any children. We suspect this piece of news will be disheartening for those who hoped he would get together with Madame Olympe Maxime, the headmistress at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.

If you’ve had the chance to see (or read up on) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, you might already know that Hagrid is featured in two flashback scenes. And while we’re by no means experts on the game, from what we can tell, it looks like he makes an appearance in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite as well, the mobile AR title made by Pokemon Go developer Niantic.

We don’t expect Hagrid to show up in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequels, of course, but we’re still hoping that this gentle giant will be fleshed out a bit more on Pottermore, the official interactive website and information portal for the Harry Potter series.
