When does ‘John Wick’ spin-off ‘Ballerina’ release?

When can we expect the expansion of the 'John Wick' mythos?

Hot off the heels of the John Wick: Chapter 4’s first weekend at the box-office, chances are that the hitman’s most diehard fans have gotten out to see the fourth installment in the saga, and are now itching for more Baba Yaga.

While more John Wick may not be coming any time soon, thankfully we do have a few “Wick-Verse” spinoff projects to look forward to, such as The Continental television series as well as Ballerina, the upcoming feature film based on Ana De Armas’ incoming character, Rooney.

With Reeves himself primed to make a cameo in the film (which reportedly takes place between John Wick chapters three and four, according to EW) naturally there’s a great deal of anticipation for the spin-off project. Thankfully, it would appear that the wait won’t be as long as it was between the latter two chapters of the John Wick films.

While a release date for Ballerina hasn’t been solidified as yet, we do have a rough time frame for when the spin-off will release. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake revealed that Ballerina is aiming for a 2024 release, in either summer or spring (via Deadline), so it’s hopefully just a little over a year away.

The film is likely to follow De Armas’ character as she seeks to avenge the murder of her family. Whether or not those murders were related to the Ruska Roma syndicate aiding John Wick in Chapter 3, is yet to be discovered – but wouldn’t be surprising. It is being teased as the antithesis to Keanu Reeves’ adventures in the John Wick universe thus far
