Will Smith may have given a strong performance in Suicide Squad, and was probably one of the few bright spots in what was an otherwise mediocre film, but it’s Collateral Beauty that has the actor making his best bid for Oscar gold this year.

The star-studded drama comes to us from director David Frankel and certainly looks like it’s going to be turning heads come awards season, as it follows Smith’s ad man who “begins a downward spiral after a tragic event but recovers in an unusual way.” It’s got all the makings of an Oscar favorite, backed by a supporting cast that boasts names like Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Pena, Naomi Harris and more.

It’s a roster of talent sure to make anyone drool at the mouth, and though an all-star cast doesn’t always equate to a stellar film, we’re pretty optimistic when it comes to Collateral Beauty. Smith usually excels in dramatic roles like this (see: The Pursuit of Happyness) and from the footage we get in this new trailer, it looks like the actor’s latest effort will be a moving, emotional experience that will definitely leave you with some food for thought after the end credits roll.

Part Christmas Carol, part It’s a Wonderful Life, Collateral Beauty will jostle for a place in the Oscar race when Frankel’s ensemble drama opens on December 26th.
