We’ve been hearing rumblings that Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader will appear in Star Wars: Episode IX for some time now. After all, the film’s being billed as the finale to the Skywalker Saga, so it’d make sense for perhaps the most important member of the family to at least be mentioned. On top of that, there are reports that the movie will have a number of throwbacks to the Prequel Trilogy, with Disney having apparently made peace with it (there’d even been rumors that they were considering remaking it).
But now a YouTuber claims to have an exclusive inside leak about what’s actually going to happen in Episode IX and though we advise taking this with a grain of salt, they’re saying they have confirmation that Hayden Christensen will indeed be returning as Anakin Skywalker. And that’s not all, as he’s going to appear as a hybrid Anakin/Vader Force Ghost to Rey, with half his face being Vader and half being Anakin.
Here’s the description of the scene:
“Rey hearing voices and breathing of Darth Vader and Anakin screams while looking at the figure with its back turned on her.
“Rey is holding a blue kyber crystal that is levitating over her hand.
“The Anakin figure vanish[es] and reappear[s] in another location in the Lost City, on top of a large structure guiding Rey to a dark place.”
Man, what a scoop! This is the first concrete information about something actually happening in Episode IX that we’ve heard in a while and it’s absolutely incredi…
Oh wait, this is going to be a Mike Zeroh story isn’t it? Ugh, settle down folks, because this news comes from him (and ridiculous British tabloid The Daily Express), which means it’s got as much chance of happening as Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean turning out to be a secret Jedi Master.
Even if this wasn’t made up by Zeroh, it still wouldn’t make sense. After all, the whole point of Vader’s death in Return of the Jedi is that he dies as a good man, hence him appearing as Anakin Skywalker in Force Ghost form on Endor. So for him to appear as Darth Vader again would totally undermine Luke’s heroic journey and screw up the ending of the Original Trilogy. On top of all that, it’d be the worst kind of pandering fan service, so I really doubt it’s going to happen.
Soon enough, we’re going to get a title and a trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, which means we get some actual news and that we don’t have to pay attention to the half-baked ramblings of some guy in his bedroom – even if he has been right about a few things in the past.
