William Friedkin left audiences heavily split with his last film, the horror feature Bug. Some liked it while others absolutely hated it. After a bit of a hiatus, the Oscar-winning director of The French Connection and The Exorcist looks to be making a comeback with Killer Joe, a black comedy based on the play by Tracy Letts.

Emile Hirsch plays a 22-year-old drug dealer named Chris. When his mother steals his stash, Chris has to find a way to come up with $6,000 or he’s a dead man. He meets with a hit man named Killer Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey). Chris puts out for a hit on his own mother when he finds out she has a life insurance policy worth $50,000. Even though Killer Joe likes payment in advance, he’s willing to make a deal if Chris has no problem with Joe using his sister (Juno Temple) for sexual favors until payment can be made.

The Playlist has provided a first look at the dark comedy, including several pictures and a video clip that shows the deal being set up. These can all be viewed below. Just the clip alone makes the film look intriguing and I hope the rest of the movie is just as well done. With an excellent cast that also includes Thomas Haden Church and a great director, this looks to be one of the more promising films of the year.

There is no set release date as of now, nor is there a trailer, but we will let you know once the news breaks.
