Do we really need a longer version of The Wolf of Wall Street? That’s the question on many people’s minds today as it’s been revealed by two of the film’s producers that Scorsese’s original cut might make it onto the Blu-Ray.

As most of you know by now, The Wolf of Wall Street originally ran about four hours long before a lot of the party and drug scenes were cut down to achieve a three-hour, theater-friendly version. Scorsese agreed that this trimmed version was his final one, but producers Joey McFarland and Riza Aziz are now suggesting that there was still some footage that was left out.

“I think we are going to have some good surprises. To be honest with you, the movie is not much different in its longer form. It’s just longer versions of scenes. Nothing really got cut out, so it’s a lot more of what you’ve already seen.”

Again, it all comes down to the question of do we really need a longer cut of the film? I guess it depends on who you ask. For me personally, I don’t see why we would need more drugs and sex. If the new scenes added to our understanding of the characters and their drama, a longer cut would most certainly be welcome. But what good is a longer version if it doesn’t add to our appreciation of the film? Heck, the four hour cut may even get a bit boring if it rehashes redundant material.

Of course, we haven’t heard from Marty himself yet on the matter and for all we know, we might only see the theatrical cut of the film on the Blu-Ray. Then again, there have been rumors of the four hour cut resurfacing for some time now so I don’t doubt what the producers are saying.
