Wolverine 2 Villain Revealed

No doubt Hugh Jackman's surprise appearance at the Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego had some fanboys peeing in their pants. If it didn't, then the juicy Wolverine 2 news he spilled surely did. Though Jackman (aka Wolverine) was there this morning promoting his robot boxing movie Real Steel, he did mention who the new villain in Wolverine 2 would be, as well as dropping filming start date.

No doubt Hugh Jackman‘s surprise appearance at the Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego had some fanboys peeing in their pants. If it didn’t, then the juicy Wolverine 2 news he spilled surely did. Though Jackman (aka Wolverine) was there this morning promoting his robot boxing movie Real Steel, he did mention who the new villain in Wolverine 2 would be, as well as dropping a filming start date.

Jackman said that filming on Wolverine 2 would start in October on location in Japan. Why Japan you ask? Because the new villain Wolverine will be taking down (no doubt) is the Silver Samurai. In the comics, Wolverine is trained in the Way of the Samurai by the father of his lover, Mariko Yashida. The Silver Samurai is actually half-brother to Mariko, and is a long-standing villain in the Marvel Universe. So this battle should be pretty epic. No word yet on who will play the Silver Samurai.

The X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t particuarly good, but Jackman as Wolverine is about the best actor/character match-up in genre film, and I’m am certainly willing to give this sequel written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) and directed by James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) a chance. Plus the environment in this sequel will lend an exotic feel to the film, which is at least something fresh.

We’ll keep you updated as more info leaks out of the Comic-Con this week. Who do you think would make a good Silver Samurai?
