Kristen Wiig, star of Bridesmaids and Paul Feig’s ill-fated Ghostbusters reboot, has officially clinched the villainous role of Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2.

Confirmation comes to us by way of Patty Jenkins, who took to Twitter earlier this morning to make the casting official: Wiig will now star opposite Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince in 2019, with filming expected to commence in two months’ time. Indeed, according to Omega Underground‘s findings, the as-yet-untitled Wonder Woman sequel will set up shop in the United Kingdom – Warner’s home base of Leavesden, to be specific – for a period of three-to-four months.

Circling back to Wiig’s casting, and this is undoubtedly the first major coup for Wonder Woman 2. In fact, providing the Patty Jenkins movie remains on schedule, this ought to be the first of many new additions to the sequel’s ensemble cast, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on Diana Prince and her sophomore adventure as time wears on.

Here’s confirmation of Kristen Wiig as the new Cheetah, courtesy of Jenkins:

Little is currently known about Wiig’s particular rendition of the famous villain, as there have been three female incarnations of the character in DC Comics – namely Priscilla Rich (the Golden and Silver Age Cheetah), Deborah Domaine (the Bronze Age Cheetah), Barbara Ann Minerva (the current Cheetah).

Be that as it may, one thing we can tell you with absolute certainty is is that Wonder Woman 2 will go back to the future – all the way into the Cold War, given Warner’s follow-up is rumored to take place in the 1980s. Barring any hiccups, the end product will be with us on November 1st, 2019, after the Powers That Be decided to bring Diana’s second solo adventure forward by six weeks in order to avoid Star Wars: Episode IX.
