Woody Harrelson Says He’s Really Impressed With Zombieland: Double Tap

Zombieland: Double Tap will be arriving in cinemas more than a decade after the first movie, and after such a long period of absence from our screens, you have to wonder if the horror-comedy series can still maintain its spark of energy and inspiration. But for what it’s worth, actor Woody Harrelson sure sounds like he’s having a fun time revisiting the post-apocalyptic world of the 2009 film.

Harrelson recently attended SXSW, where his new Netflix drama The Highwaymen had its premiere. While there, he spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming sequel and the many laughs he’s had on set.

“What we’ve shot so far, I’m really impressed with,” Harrelson said. “Getting to hang out with these guys — Emma, and Abbie, and Jesse, and Ruben — I feel so lucky, really, really lucky. You know, it’s literally laughing all day long, and that’s your job. Like, my job is, I laugh all day long? It seems unbelievable. So, I feel really lucky right now.”

Double Tap sees Harrelson reunite with Zombieland stars Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Jesse Eisenberg, as well as director Ruben Fleischer. Incidentally, Harrelson also made a post-credits cameo in the filmmaker’s last feature, Venom, and is expected to play the main villain in the planned sequel, though when asked by EW if he could offer any Venom 2 details, the actor responded with a laugh and a blunt “No!”

Speaking of comic book films, Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have evidently found enough time between Deadpool movies to pen a script for Double Tap, which apparently introduces some new varieties of zombie that have managed to evolve over the years. On the human end of things, the film will also feature a “zombie-hunting badass named Nevada,” played by Rosario Dawson, as well as a love interest for Eisenberg’s character, played by Zoey Deutch. Also making their debut in the series will be comedy actors Thomas Middleditch and Luke Wilson.

Overall, it’s a pretty impressive line-up, and Eisenberg recently offered his assurance that the team won’t just be resting on their laurels, but you can judge the results for yourself when Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters on October 11th, 2019.
