What’s the one thing Wade Wilson, Domino and Nathan Summers all have in common? You know, besides the mutant-like abilities…
The X-Force, of course! And we now have reason to believe that Fox’s long-rumored spinoff movie, one which currently has Drew Goddard attached at the helm, will enter production this fall.
Production Weekly has the scoop, which suggests Goddard and his creative team will get the cameras rolling before the year’s end, when Fox’s triad of Deadpool 2 stars – namely Ryan Reynolds, Zazie Beetz and Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin – are all expected to reprise their respective roles.
Beyond that, details are scarce; all we know for sure is that Deadpool 2 will likely act as something of a springboard as Fox begins to expand its mutant universe. Also of note, the X-Force comics included characters like Warpath, Colossus, Boom Boom, Shatterstar, Feral, Wolverine, X-23, Archangel, Psylocke and Fantomex, so there’s no telling who Goddard plans to use when the wheels begin turning.
Shatterstar is surely a safe bet, given he was briefly glimpsed during Fox’s full trailer for Deadpool 2, while James Mangold and the Powers That Be over at Fox seemingly have their own vision for X-23 – you know, assuming the historic Disney-Fox merger hasn’t derailed any plans for a Laura-centric spinoff. And after that? It’s anyone’s guess, really, but with filming set to commence this fall, we’ll likely uncover the answers we so crave sooner rather than later.
Even after this alleged status report, Drew Goddard’s X-Force spinoff likely won’t be ready until late 2019, by which point Fox will have launched The New Mutants and its long-in-development Gambit movie. The latter recently lost Gore Verbinski, so we’re hopeful that Remy LeBeau can settle on a fourth (and surely final!) director before long.
