X-Men: Dark Phoenix Star Wants A Storm Solo Movie

Despite the future of the studio being in flux, Fox is pressing ahead with plans for a truckload of new X-Men spinoff movies. Many mutants already have their own solo films in the works, including Kitty Pryde, Gambit and even Multiple Man, so isn't it about time that one of the most famous X-Men, a character who's been with the movie franchise since the very beginning, got their own standalone vehicle, too?

Alexandra Shipp, who took over the role of Storm from Halle Berry in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, was asked by The Hollywood Reporter if she’d heard about any talks of a solo outing for her character and admitted that nothing’s been discussed at the moment but she hopes that changes soon.

“Not yet, but I am hoping we will get around to it. It is definitely time for these Storm fans to get the movie they have been dying for.”

When asked what she’d like to see in such a film, Shipp showed off her comic book knowledge by referencing a couple of story arcs that could make for some interesting material to explore in a movie starring Ororo Munroe.

“There are so many different storylines that we could take on when it comes to Storm — whether she is losing her powers or going back to Africa. I just want there to be a message of ‘this woman doesn’t need a man.’ Just one movie where a woman doesn’t need a man, really.”

This isn’t the first time Shipp has campaigned to get some more opportunities for her character to take the spotlight. Back in 2016, the actress called for Storm to crossover to the MCU and team up with her comic book husband Black Panther. That might actually be a possibility, too, if Disney ends up buying Fox. Though that deal’s far from done at this point.

For now, we can look forward to seeing Alexandra Shipp suit up in next February’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
