Over the years, the X-Men continuity has become so convoluted – so downright confusing – that it’s a wonder anyone can keep track of a franchise that has only ballooned with each passing installment.
Trust Wade Wilson, then, to come in and rip up the rulebook. First there was the cheeky “McAvoy or Stewart?” stinger from the original movie and now, with Deadpool 2 playing in theaters all across the globe, fans will have no doubt caught wind of the scene in which the entire X-Men ensemble pop up for a surprise cameo.
It’s by no means the only cameo in Deadpool 2, as David Leitch’s rip-roaring sequel is packed full of so many awesome Easter eggs and references, that we’d really need to see it three or four times before we identify each and every nod to wider pop culture. But now, while speaking to ET Online (h/t Cinema Blend), Quicksilver himself, Evan Peters, has dished on the X-Men’s appearance, saying the following:
We did a bunch of different versions, some not PG, and they ended up using that one. I thought it was going to be for the end credits — and I think everybody kinda did — but it ended up being like, boom, right there sort of in the first half of the film. Which was really sort of weird and shocking.
Given the sheer popularity of post-credits scenes, it’s small wonder why Peters was fooled into thinking that the group shot of Dark Phoenix‘s cast was being reserved for after the Deadpool 2 credits. But this being Wade Wilson, it’s really best to expect the unexpected at this point, wouldn’t you say?
