YouTuber ComicTheories has released a new video (below) explaining how he believes the X-Men will arrive in the MCU following the conclusion of Phase Four. Assuming that the ongoing X-Universe (as it’s called) will simply be cancelled and the characters rebooted, ComicTheories suggests that the MCU has already been seeded with clues that hint at the existence of mutantkind.

For one, the video highlights a scene from Iron Man 3 which sees Aldrich Killian explain the key to his Extremis virus to Pepper Potts. In particular, he shows her a part of the brain that suggests human beings are “destined to be upgraded.” This fits in with the classic idea of mutants being the next evolutionary step of homo sapiens.

With the potential for mutantkind already established then, the video suggests that some reality-warping effect of Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel will inadvertently cause people across the world to develop mutant powers. This has already been set up, too, thanks to the Maximoff twins, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were given their abilities after exposure to the Mind Stone.

If we’re being honest, this video definitely makes an intriguing case, and when laid out like it is it’s surprisingly easy to see how the X-Men could fit into the MCU. If Marvel Studios do indeed choose to simply wipe the slate clean and start again, we imagine this layout of events won’t be far from the truth.

However, there is still the possibility that the X-Men movie universe will be left in tact. Previously, Disney CEO Bob Iger has spoken about his wish to keep the brand separate from the MCU, likewise for the R-rated Deadpool.

With the results of the deal likely not being felt until 2019 – at the earliest – fans still have a fair while to keep on theorizing about how the Marvel/X-Men merger will go down. What are your personal ideas, though? Indeed, do you buy into this theory? Sound off in the comments section below and let us know.
