Zachary Levi Says Working For DC Was More Fun Than Marvel

While most fans tend to focus on Marvel and DC’s key players (think Captain America, Batman, Thor, The Flash, etc.), there are plenty of minor characters across the dozens of films that comprise the MCU and DCEU, many of which are played by A-listers. Ant-Man and the Waspfor example, features the likes of Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, while Academy Award winner Viola Davis played Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad

More interestingly, there are a handful of actors who have made an appearance in both Marvel and DC films. Laurence Fishburne, for instance, had a role in the aforementioned Ant-Man and the Wasp as well as both Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The same goes for Florence Kasumba, who was featured in Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. And then, there’s Zachary Levi.

The man who rose to stardom in Chuck played Fandral the Dashing, one of the members of the Warriors Three in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. That particular role was more under the radar, but DC fans will undoubtedly recognize Levi from Shazam!where he played the titular hero.

Perhaps due to contractual obligations – or maybe in an attempt to shy away from badmouthing one company over another – Zachary and his fellow Marvel/DC actors have never weighed in on which studio they preferred, but everything changed last weekend after he made an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando.

When asked about his preference, Levi was quick to answer that he had more fun with DC, though his justification was reasonable.

“Everything’s a competition, isn’t it?,” Levi joked. “Well, I mean, I had more fun working for DC. I mean, I got to be my own superhero with DC, bro. It was super cool that I was cast, although I wasn’t able to do the first Thor, I was cast in that by Kenneth Branagh, who I think is an incredible talent.”

It’s a good thing he enjoyed his time spent working with DC; while Fandral bit the dust in Thor: Ragnarok, Warner Bros. is already developing a sequel to Shazam, which Zachary’s expected to star in.
